Calathea Rufibarba
Commonly known as the velvet calathea, it's easy to see (and feel) why. Stunning vibrant green leaves with a rich burgundy underside are covered in fine soft hairs, and have wavy undulating leaf margins. Unlike most calatheas, the velvet calathea is reasonably fuss free. They like humidity so do best when grouped with other plants, and kept away from air conditioners, fans and droughty spots. But otherwise a bright indirect spot and regular waterings to maintain moist soil during the warmer months is really all it wants. For enhanced growth and flowering we recommend using Troforte M Indoor & Patio Slow Release fertiliser at half the recommended application rate. Calathea rufibarba grows to 1m height and width.
Water: With a preference for moisture during the growing season, water well when the top 1-2cm of soil becomes dry. Foliage will become limp and dull green in extreme dehydration, soak the root ball for 1-2 hours before draining well.
Sun: Indoors bright indirect to full sun (North, South or East facing windows). Keep out of Westerly facing windows or afternoon sun exposure.
Soil: Well-draining, fertile indoor mix. We recommend using The Home Plant Co Indoor Potting Mix.
