Elkhorn / Staghorn Care 101

Staghorns and Elkhorns are similar plants. The Staghorn Fern is one single plant (single eye) where the Elkhorn Fern is made up of many smaller plants (multiple eyes).

Both species grow in warm, humid forests and caring of them is pretty much the same.

Water

Water every 1–2 weeks, allowing soil to dry out half way down between waterings. Keep these ferns slightly dry in cold winter weather.

This plant can benefit from extra humidity.

Yellowing leaves, wet potting mix: Overwatered

Hot tip:
You can mount these plants on a tree fern slab or Marine ply to have a stunning growing wall installation.
